Golf Digest has ranked King's North among its Top 100 Public Courses, and the course has sustained that reputation through decades of play and two major renovations. The Arnold Palmer statue in the clubhouse serves as a reminder of the relationship between the King and the course that bears his legacy most visibly on the Strand.

Part of a 54-hole facility that makes Myrtle Beach National one of the most versatile golf destinations in the market, King's North is the destination round — the course players point to when they return home and describe what Grand Strand golf can look like at its most dramatic.

Caddie's Notes

4 things worth knowing before your round — from tee selection to where to eat when you're done.

01
Course Character & Design
Arnold Palmer's 1996 redesign transformed the original 1973 North Course into a theatrical experience built around water and sand, 15 of 18 holes feature water and the course counts 200-plus bunkers in total. A sweeping 2024-2025 renovation by Brandon Johnson (a Palmer Design Group veteran) rebuilt all greens 36% larger, replaced every bunker with Capillary Concrete liners, and installed new TifEagle greens, making this the most thoroughly upgraded course on the Grand Strand.
02
Signature Holes
The par-3 12th is King's North's most photographed hole: an island green with sand traps shaped like the state of South Carolina surrounding it. The par-5 6th, nicknamed 'The Gambler' after the Kenny Rogers song, features an island fairway that dares players to take the risk, while the par-4 18th 'Bull's-Eye' lines both the fairway and green with 40-plus bunkers for a white-knuckle finish.
03
Course Conditions
The 2024-2025 renovation has King's North playing as well as it ever has. New TifEagle UltraDwarf Bermuda greens are an ultra-premium putting surface used at some of the world's most celebrated courses, and Capillary Concrete bunker liners mean the sand plays consistently regardless of recent rainfall. Post-renovation conditions are the best argument for visiting soon, before the course settles into its mature renovation phase.
04
Before You Play
King's North is part of Founders Group International's 54-hole Myrtle Beach National complex, if you're booking multiple rounds, combining it with SouthCreek or the West Course makes logistical sense. The signature holes are Instagram moments, but don't forget that 200-plus bunkers means course management off the tee is everything. The new larger greens give you more to aim for but reward players who attack the right pin position.
