Named Golf Course of the Year for both Myrtle Beach and South Carolina in 2013, and listed among Golf Digest's Top 100 Public Courses, the Dye Course has built a reputation that draws serious players from across the country. It is also the longtime host of Darius Rucker's Monday After the Masters charity event, adding a touch of celebrity to its already considerable profile.
Set within the gated Dye Estates community, the course carries a semi-private atmosphere that reinforces its premium positioning. Golfers who come here know what they're in for — and they come anyway, because there is no other Pete Dye experience like it within 200 miles.

4 things worth knowing before your round — from tee selection to where to eat when you're done.
01
Course Character & Design
Pete Dye's Barefoot course was the first of the four Barefoot Resort designs to open (all four opened in 2000) and is widely considered the most demanding: a classic Dye design featuring massive waste areas containing shell fragments, railroad tie bulkheads, island greens, extreme bunkering, and the visual intimidation that made the architect famous at Sawgrass and Harbour Town. The course wraps around the Intracoastal Waterway with Dye's characteristic use of the natural water environment as both hazard and backdrop.
02
Signature Holes
Pete Dye's fingerprints are everywhere, the railroad tie bulkheads, the island or near-island green configurations, and the severe elevation changes built into greens complexes that look flat from a distance. The Intracoastal-adjacent holes are the most dramatic on the property, and the course's difficulty rating makes it the serious test of the four-course Barefoot offering.
03
Course Conditions
Champion UltraDwarf Bermuda greens are maintained to the resort-wide standard across all four Barefoot courses. The Dye Course's distinctive conditioning challenge is its railroad tie bulkheads, they require regular maintenance to hold their visual integrity and playability, and Barefoot Resort keeps them in the sharp condition that Dye's original design intended.
04
Before You Play
The Dye Course is the right choice for low-handicap golfers who want the most demanding test the Barefoot portfolio offers: it requires commitment on every shot and punishes indecision severely. Mid-handicap golfers will have more fun on the Love Course and should save the Dye for a return visit once they've found their Barefoot legs. Of the four Barefoot courses, the Dye has the widest pricing window ($100-$230), with strong twilight and off-peak discounting that makes it accessible at a range of budgets. Replay rounds are available here, which is rare among the four Barefoot courses.
