Mike Strantz's sand-swept cathedral — bold enough to rival Pine Valley.

Built directly across the road from its sister course, Caledonia, True Blue shares the same plantation heritage but plays an entirely different game. Where Caledonia rewards finesse and restraint, True Blue demands commitment — fairways are wide enough to invite the driver on nearly every hole, but the penalty for missing into the sandy wastelands is immediate and severe.

An 18-acre practice facility rivals those at destination resorts, and the course's consistent appearance on Golfweek and Golf Magazine Top 100 lists has made True Blue one of the most-booked rounds on the Hammock Coast. For golfers who want theater along with their challenge, few courses anywhere deliver both as completely.

Caddie's Notes

4 things worth knowing before your round — from tee selection to where to eat when you're done.

01
Course Character & Design
Mike Strantz's True Blue is widely regarded as his most dramatic design, a massive, theatrical layout built on the same Waccamaw Neck landscape as sister course Caledonia, but with a completely different character. Where Caledonia is intimate and tree-enclosed, True Blue is expansive and bold: enormous waste bunkers, dramatic elevation changes, and wildly sculpted terrain that makes every hole feel like it occupies its own world.
02
Signature Holes
True Blue's waste bunkers are among the most visually spectacular on the Grand Strand, wide, sandy, and threaded through by fairways that demand both distance and precision to navigate. The finishing holes are the most memorable stretch on the property, with the natural sculpted terrain and native vegetation framing a closing sequence that rewards aggressive play from the right position.
03
Course Conditions
TifEagle Bermuda greens are maintained to a high standard that matches True Blue's top-of-market positioning in Golf Advisor's South Carolina rankings. The waste bunker-heavy design drains exceptionally well after rain, and the course is known for coming back into excellent playing condition quickly after heavy weather, an important attribute during Myrtle Beach's unpredictable spring season.
04
Before You Play
True Blue pairs naturally with Caledonia as a two-course day, True Blue has the driving range that Caledonia lacks, making it the logical warmup stop before heading to its sister course. True Blue Golf Resort offers on-site lodging, making it a convenient base for a multi-round South Strand trip. The waste bunkers require a different mindset than traditional sand: take your medicine, advance the ball, and don't try to be a hero from deep in the sandy scrub.
