Golf Digest has ranked Heritage Club as high as 33rd among the Top 100 Public Courses in America, recognition that reflects both the quality of the design and the consistency of the conditions. The course is part of the Legends Golf family, and a round here includes breakfast and lunch — a tradition that reinforces the sense that Heritage Club operates more like a private club than a public layout.

The combination of plantation history, old-growth trees, and Maples' strategic routing makes Heritage one of the most complete golf experiences on the Hammock Coast. Players who appreciate courses where every hole tells a story — and where the greens require as much attention on the practice putting green as they do on the course — will want to return.

Caddie's Notes

4 things worth knowing before your round — from tee selection to where to eat when you're done.

01
Course Character & Design
Dan Maples routed Heritage Club through 600 acres of former rice plantation on the Waccamaw Neck, weaving the layout around 300-year-old live oaks, magnolias, freshwater lakes, and marshland that frames the Waccamaw River. The Southern Colonial clubhouse with river views is one of the most atmospheric settings in Lowcountry golf, and historical markers throughout the property ground the round in the land's three centuries of history.
02
Signature Holes
The par-3 13th is Heritage's showpiece: 228 yards from the tips over water to a ridged green guarded by pot bunkers, demanding both distance and precision. The par-4 routing is relentlessly demanding, all but two of the eleven par-4s exceed 400 yards, which means Heritage plays longer and harder than its yardage suggests for most golfers.
03
Course Conditions
Champion UltraDwarf Bermuda greens are a consistent strong point, rolling true and recovering well from heavy traffic. The natural terrain, lakes, marsh edges, and mature tree canopy, does the maintenance work of keeping the course visually spectacular without requiring artificial intervention.
04
Before You Play
Take the tee yardage seriously: at par 71, Heritage Club plays significantly longer than it looks on the card, and most golfers will want to step down a tee or two to enjoy the routing. The Classic Swing Golf School, ranked among Golf Magazine's Top 25 Golf Schools, operates on-site with 3-day programs year-round. Legends package pricing includes complimentary breakfast, lunch, and two beverages, making Heritage one of the best all-in values on the Strand. The active alligator habitat on the back nine is not decorative, stay well back from water edges.
