Skins Game battlefield with the valley's broadest panorama

18 Holes
72 Par
7,054 Yards Black tees
139 Slope Rating 74.7

Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt cut 440 acres of Chocolate Mountain foothills into a layout that surprised the golf world by hosting the PGA Tour Skins Game for four consecutive years — not a typical honour for a public course at any price point. The island-green par-3 that defined those televised events plays with the same drama today that it delivered under the lights in 1999, and the hole 7 tee box panorama is a genuine moment of scale that most golf courses, regardless of price, don't provide. At 7,060 yards with GPS carts provided, the North Course plays as a serious test for the serious golfer while remaining accessible enough to serve as the flagship of JC Golf's Indio portfolio. The 35-minute drive from central Palm Springs means this is best planned as a dedicated eastern-valley outing rather than a same-day add-on after a morning round closer to the city.

Caddie's Notes

4 things worth knowing before your round — from tee selection to where to eat when you're done.

01
Course Character & Design
Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt cut 440 acres of Chocolate Mountain foothills into a layout that surprised the golf world by hosting the PGA Tour Skins Game from 1999 through 2002 — not a typical honor for a brand-new municipal course in Indio. Woods, Mickelson, and Norman played these holes on national television, and the island-green par-3 from that era remains the property's most iconic hole. The panoramic views from the elevated tees, particularly the hole 7 tee box, may offer the broadest vista of the Coachella Valley available from any public course.
02
Signature Holes
The island-green par-3 from the Skins Game broadcasts is the signature — it's a hole you've probably seen on television even if you don't know the course name. The hole 7 tee box panorama is worth a moment of appreciation before hitting. At 7,054 yards with a 148 slope from the tips, the North Course has genuine championship length, but the four tee positions on every hole bring it into range for all levels.
03
Course Conditions
TifEagle Bermuda greens are maintained by JC Golf management. The Chocolate Mountain foothills terrain means more elevation variation and natural drainage than most valley-floor courses. The desert scrub transitions are abrupt — the foothills setting means offline shots can find genuinely unplayable lies in ways that flatter courses don't produce.
04
Before You Play
Walking is allowed but the foothills terrain and hole spacing make carts the practical choice. Full grass range and short game area on-site, though no formal instruction program. The Clubhouse Restaurant & Bar serves both courses. WorldMark Indio Resort is adjacent for stay-and-play packages. At $39–$150, the North Course offers the best ratio of course pedigree to green fee in the Coachella Valley — you're playing Skins Game holes at municipal pricing.

FAQ

Common Questions

Yes — Terra Lago North hosted the PGA Tour Skins Game from 1999 through 2002, with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Greg Norman among the competitors. The island-green par-3 that featured prominently in those broadcasts is the same hole you play today.
The tee box on the par-4 7th offers what is arguably the broadest single panorama of the Coachella Valley available from any public course — the full valley floor, the surrounding mountain ranges, and the scale of the desert are all visible simultaneously. Take a moment before you hit.
Yes — ryegrass overseeding runs November through March. TifEagle Bermuda greens provide consistent putting surfaces; expect transition variability during changeover windows.
