La Quinta's municipal course, closest to the Santa Rosa Mountains
Palmer brought his municipal course sensibility to SilverRock — this is a layout that takes itself seriously without taking itself expensively, and the Bob Hope Classic rounds from 2008 through 2011 confirmed the course's ability to handle professional scrutiny. The La Quinta city ownership means access remains reasonable while the Palmer design standard is maintained. The Latitude 36 Bermuda fairways on the front nine play firm and fast — bump-and-run approaches work with the grain of the course rather than against it. The back nine redesign completed in 2017 improved the routing considerably, and the 2026 renovation (May 18 through August 28) is investing further in turf quality. The rocky outcroppings and native bunkers throughout create visual drama that most municipal courses don't attempt, and the mountain proximity means afternoon shadows fall across the course earlier than at more centrally sited layouts.
