Ted Robinson's island-fairway target-links in central Palm Springs

Where the Legend Course plays through decades of settled residential Palm Springs, the Resort Course brings Ted Robinson's water-feature vocabulary to the same municipal setting — the island fairway on the 7th hole is the most distinctive individual design element at either Tahquitz course, and the Robinson family's characteristic cascading waterfalls and fountains give the layout a resort feel at a city-owned price point. The Tahquitz Canyon Wash defining the course's eastern edge provides a natural boundary that the design uses effectively, and the San Jacinto Mountain views are constant throughout in a way that complements rather than distracts from the golf. The shared 50-stall all-grass practice facility is genuinely the best warm-up infrastructure at any municipal course in Palm Springs. Green fees are subject to potential change pending City Council review — confirm when booking.

Caddie's Notes

4 things worth knowing before your round — from tee selection to where to eat when you're done.

01
Course Character & Design
Ted Robinson Sr. and Jr. designed the Resort Course in 1995 as a target-links complement to Bell's traditional Legend Course on the same municipal property. The island fairway on the 7th is one of the more unusual risk-reward sequences in the valley — a format that demands a committed tee shot to a fairway completely surrounded by hazard. Waterfalls, lakes, and fountains punctuate the rolling terrain while Tahquitz Canyon Wash defines the course's eastern edge and the San Jacinto Mountain views remain constant throughout.
02
Signature Holes
The par-4 7th with its island fairway is the standout — it's a hole format you rarely encounter, and the all-or-nothing tee shot creates genuine tension. Robinson's water features throughout are positioned to create strategic interest rather than mere decoration — the waterfalls and fountains add audio texture that most desert courses lack. The Wash-adjacent holes on the eastern edge play with a different character, more exposed and wind-affected.
03
Course Conditions
Bermuda greens and fairways are maintained to the same municipal standard as the Legend Course. The rolling terrain and Robinson water features give the Resort Course better visual variety than the flatter Legend layout. The shared 50-stall all-grass range serves both courses and is one of the better public practice facilities in Palm Springs.
04
Before You Play
Walking is allowed and practical, though the terrain is more varied than on the Legend Course. Traditions Café is shared with the Legend. At $58–$162, the Resort Course costs slightly more than the Legend, reflecting the newer design and more elaborate water features. The two courses pair well for a full day — the Legend for its historical character and walkable simplicity, the Resort for Robinson's water-feature vocabulary and strategic variety. Same City Council rate review applies.

FAQ

Common Questions

The par-4 7th features a fairway surrounded by water, with a bridge as the approach route to the green. The bridge approach is narrower than it appears from a distance — a straight drive is rewarded and a wayward one forces a decision about the bridge angle.
Yes — same as the Legend Course, a City Council rate increase was proposed and paused in December 2025. Confirm current rates when booking.
Yes — ryegrass overseeding runs November through March. Expect transition variability during changeover windows.
