Bell's tree-lined routing through residential Palm Springs preserves a scale and intimacy that the resort-scale developments that followed never replicated, and the push-up greens from the original design have developed the kind of character over six-plus decades that no renovation can manufacture. The 40 bunkers added by Arnold Palmer Golf Management in 1996 work with rather than against the course's bones. Green fees are subject to potential change pending a City Council review (a proposed rate increase was paused in December 2025 but may resume — confirm when booking). Course Character & Design

William F. Bell's 1957–59 design is where Palm Springs public golf began — a tree-lined layout winding through historic residential neighborhoods at a pace and scale that modern desert design has largely abandoned. The push-up greens with steep back-to-front slopes are the course's defensive mechanism, rewarding players who know the local green-reading tendencies. Arnold Palmer Golf Management added 40 bunkers in 1996, but the fundamental Bell routing remains intact and plays as a genuinely different experience from anything built in the last 30 years.

Signature Holes

The Legend's character is in its consistency rather than individual showcase holes — the tree-lined corridors create a sustained visual rhythm, and the push-up greens demand a specific approach strategy on virtually every hole. Local knowledge matters here more than on most desert courses: the green slopes have tendencies that repeat, and players who learn them have a significant advantage. The 40 Palmer-era bunkers add just enough strategic variety without disrupting Bell's original flow.

Course Conditions

Bermuda greens and fairways are maintained to municipal standards. The mature tree canopy provides meaningful shade — rare in desert golf — and the residential setting shields the course from the worst of the valley's afternoon winds. The Legend shares a 50-stall all-grass practice facility with the Resort Course, which is among the larger public ranges in Palm Springs proper.

Before You Play

Walking is genuinely practical here — the compact Bell routing keeps green-to-tee distances short, and the tree shade makes it more comfortable than walking any open-desert course. The shared 50-stall range serves both courses. Traditions Café handles dining for both Legend and Resort. At $54–$123, this is the most affordable quality golf in Palm Springs city limits.
