Volcanic rock, elevation drama, and a 2024 Liddy restoration
Where the Dunes Course reflects Dye discovering the desert, the Mountain Course reflects him fully at home in it — the volcanic rock formations, the severity of the elevation changes, and the way pot bunkers sit hard against the mountain terrain are the work of an architect who understood exactly what he was doing. There are almost no comfortable bailout zones on this course: every approach is committed or it's wrong, and the mountain terrain amplifies mistakes in ways that flatter desert layouts don't. The 2024 Liddy restoration expanded greens and rebuilt bunker complexes, tightening the course back to its original intent after years of gradual softening. The back nine's panoramic Santa Rosa Mountain views are among the most spectacular available from any public course in the valley — if you can spare the attention from the shot at hand. Shares the Pete Dye Clubhouse with the Dunes Course.
